A small plane crashed into the Murphy Canyon neighborhood of San Diego Thursday (May 22) morning, officials confirmed via NBC San Diego.

The incident reportedly took place at around 3:47 a.m. local time in the 3100 block of Salmon Street in a military housing neighborhood near Tierrasanta.

"We have not transported anyone from the scene so far," said San Diego Fire-Rescue Division Chief Dan Eddy via NBC San Diego.

Multiple homes and cars were reported to be on fire, which the department was working to contain, according to Chief Eddy.

"There are multiple cars engulfed, we have jet fuel all over the place. We have hazmat on scene, and we asked for more resources. We are also working with the military," he said.

CBS News 8 San Diego anchor Eric Kahnert shared footage of firefighters in the Tierrasanta neighborhood on his X account Thursday morning.

The plane was identified as a Cessna 550 traveling to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, though the number of people on board is unknown, according to the Federal Aviation Administration via NBC San Diego.
