Impeachment Witness Alexander Vindman Fired From National Security Council

One of the key witnesses who testified during the House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump has been fired from his job on the National Security Council. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman's attorney David Pressman confirmed his client was "escorted out of the White House" by security. Pressman went on to say Vindman lost his job because he told the truth.

"There is no question in the mind of any American why this man's job is over, why this country now has one less soldier serving it at the White House," Pressman said in a statement. "LTC Vindman was asked to leave for telling the truth. His honor, his commitment to right, frightened the powerful."

Vindman served as the top Ukraine expert on the National Security Council. He was expected to be removed from the role later this year but had started telling colleagues he expected to be fired sooner rather than later.

Vindman will likely return to the Pentagon, but it is unclear what role he would serve at the Defense Department.
