Minor Leaguer Who Ended No-Hitter With Bunt Received Death Threats: Report

Down by three runs with one out in the bottom of the ninth, the Trenton Thunder still did not have a hit in the game. Outfielder Matt Lipka came to the plate and laid down a perfect bunt for a base hit to break up the Hartford Yard Goats' bid for a combined no-hitter.

The bunt didn't help, and the Thunder would go on to lose the game, but his actions caused both benches to clear once the game had ended. The New York Yankees prospect broke one of the unwritten rules of baseball by trying to break up a no-hitter with a bunt, and the Yard Goats players were not happy about it.

The players exchanged words on the infield and eventually separated and went into their locker rooms. There were no further issues between the two teams.

Lipka's bunt also upset the Yard Goats fans, who went online to voice their displeasure with the play. According to NJ Advanced Media, Lipka received death threats on social media after the game. A source from within the Thunder told the news outlet that the New York Yankees are aware of the threats and are investigating them.
